Privacy Notice
Effective September 5, 2026. Last updated September 8, 2026.
Who we are
This site is run by the Simi Valley Police Officers Association Political Action Committee, a political action committee sponsored by the Simi Valley Police Officers Association. Reach us at simivalleypoa@gmail.com or PO Box 616, Simi Valley, CA 93062. This notice covers this website, the email and text updates you can join here, and the social accounts we control. It does not cover candidate sites, election officials, or anyone else we link to. The site is meant for adults who can vote. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
What we collect
- Sign-ups. Your name, email, ZIP code, and, if you give them, your mobile number and your consent to receive texts.
- Messages. If you email us, we keep the message so we can answer it.
- Server logs. Our host records standard technical information such as IP address, browser, and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure.
- Contributions. This site does not take contributions. If that changes, California law will require us to collect and publicly report the name, address, occupation, and employer of anyone giving $100 or more in a year, and we will update this notice first.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages help voters, so we know what to improve. It sets a cookie in your browser and sends Google a record of the page you viewed, a trimmed version of your IP address, and general details about your browser and device. We do not give Google your name, email, or phone number, and we have turned off advertising features, so this data is not used to target ads to you.
Analytics is off until you allow it. The first time you visit, a notice asks. Nothing is measured unless you choose Allow, and your choice is remembered in your own browser. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a decline and never ask. To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser settings and answer the notice again. Google's handling of the data it receives is covered by the Google privacy policy.
The district lookup
When you use the district lookup, the address you type, or your device location if you choose that, goes straight from your browser to public mapping services: the Ventura County GIS locator, the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, Photon by komoot, the City of Simi Valley and City of Oxnard map services, and Esri basemap tiles. We never receive, log, or store the addresses you look up. Those services handle the request under their own privacy policies.
How we use it
To send the updates you asked for, to answer your questions, to keep the site working, and to meet the record-keeping rules in California's Political Reform Act. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
Texts
We text only people who opt in. Messages are recurring campaign, election alert, and volunteer messages from the Simi Valley Police Officers Association Political Action Committee. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of any contribution. Reply STOP to stop, or HELP for help. You can also email us. We honor opt-outs within 10 business days. We do not share or sell mobile opt-in information.
Every email has an unsubscribe link and our mailing address, and we honor unsubscribes within 10 business days. Mass email paid for by the committee carries the disclosures California requires.
Who else sees it
Only the vendors that host this site and deliver our email and texts, and only so they can do that work for us; our treasurer and compliance advisers, to meet reporting duties; and government agencies when the law requires it, such as the Fair Political Practices Commission, the Secretary of State, or a court order. We may also disclose information to protect the rights or safety of the committee, our members, or the public.
Public reporting
Committees in California file public reports. Signing up for updates does not put you in one. Contributions do. If we ever accept contributions here, anyone giving $100 or more in a calendar year has their name, city, state, ZIP, occupation, employer, and amount reported publicly. Contributions of $100 or more cannot be made in cash or anonymously, cannot be made in someone else's name, and cannot come from foreign nationals.
Your choices
- Reply STOP to any text.
- Use the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Email simivalleypoa@gmail.com to see, correct, or delete what you gave us. We will do it unless the law requires us to keep the record.
- A Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal from your browser turns analytics off automatically. We never track you across other websites.
California rights
The California Consumer Privacy Act applies to for-profit businesses over certain thresholds. This committee is a nonprofit political committee, not a business under that law. We follow its spirit anyway: we tell you what we collect, we do not sell or share it for cross-context advertising, and we honor reasonable requests to see or delete it. This notice is also written to meet the California Online Privacy Protection Act.
Keeping and protecting it
We keep sign-up information while you stay subscribed and for the record-keeping period the Political Reform Act requires, generally four years. We use encrypted connections, limited access, and established vendors. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection.
Changes
If we change how we handle personal information, we will post the new notice here with a new date. If the change is significant and you are subscribed, we will email you too.
